It's 1957.

Rosie Bishop is a normal five-year old little girl,
with a respectable family and a nice home.

So what's funny about that?

She doesn't rule the world.
But she's damn well gonna try.

So what's the story behind creating Thorn?

Rosie started life as a supporting character in my old 80's webcomic As If! Thorn is a spin-off series created for the little hellion that everyone loved to hate.

Rosie has simply been transplanted from the the As If! world and given her own family with a whole new story in a whole new era. I adore the 1950's. Rosie's world is a world of pink frills, petticoats, tuna casserole, homemade cookies, ribbons and annoying big sisters in saddleshoes.
And getting her way. Always. SOME things never change.

Thorn is a pure gag strip. It's chiefly about the eternal sibling battle between Rosie and her biggest nemesis, Edie. As well as being a comic about sisters, It's also about Rosie's attempts to assert her absolute supreme rule over all she surveys. Not easy sometimes, when you're an ambitious little girl living in the conformist fifties.

I also created Thorn to continue the legacy of great comic strips. I grew up devouring Peanuts and Krazy Kat and have dreamed of creating a genuine old-school comic for about as long as I've held a pencil. Don't expect to find politics, edgy commentary or Internet Humour here. If you enjoy funny characters and good old-fashioned G-rated charm, welcome to Thorn.

I hope to have Thorn syndicated some day.
